    Description

    Italy, Genoa, 1649 Scudo, huge crown sized coin, 38.1gm, 41mm, Dav 3901, beautiful image of Virgin and Child, a massive chunky coin (normal crowns are 28gm, the scudo was much heavier). Well toned and better struck than most of this scarce type. Note 4 lines carefully scratched into the field to the right of the Child. Not sure why..I don't find it very distracting. Edge is irregular and crude, seemingly as made.
