Description
For sale are two cup and saucer sets made by Westmoreland Glasswear 1940s & 50s. Originally offered in eight fruit designs. They are renowned for durability and, with many fine examples, are easy to collect. Each of the four pieces is hand decorated one set (cup and plate) with plums and one set with blackberries with matching foliage in turquoise, lime, lemon and light gray; the fruit is predominately blue with darker areas in a reddish brown.
The cup measures approximately 3n 5/8" wide, 4 1/2" with the handle, and sits 2 1/4" high and the beaded edge saucer is 5 1/2" wide by 5/8" high. As an aside, when well lit, the saucer looks like milk glass while the cup appears more like vitrified glass.
All four pieces are in very good condition with no damage or wear observed. The hand painted decorations are in very good condition -- bright and undamaged. The saucers are marked with interwoven WG (photograph 12).
